Proofreading Internship with Complete Healthcare Communications

This internship listing comes to us from Iesha Crofoot-Lewis, a Villanova English major graduate, who says, “it’s a great opportunity to gain experience with agency life, as well as gain familiarity with medical jargon.”  CHC, in Chadds Ford, specializes in publication planning for pharmaceutical companies, and is attached to MediMedia (Yardley, Pa.), which specializes in producing advertising collateral for big pharma.  The internship requires Tuesday/Thursday availability and starts this month.  If you are interested, e-mail a cover letter and résumé to Iesha Lewis-Crofoot: ILewis-Crofoot@medimedia.com. 

Proofreading Intern Job Description:
The proofreading intern will learn the basics of medical/pharmaceutical-related proofreading, in the publication planning and ad agency environment. On the job training and shadowing will provide an understanding of proofreading’s role, which is to ensure accuracy throughout the editorial and creative process. During their tenure, interns will learn how to effectively interface between departments, including editorial services, project management, and creative services.
Tasks will include the following:
Proofread medical/pharmaceutical-related layouts (congress posters, journal manuscripts, abstracts, figures) for accuracy against authorized text
Digitally mark recommended changes, interfacing with project management and design staff to ensure accuracy of final product
Will gain familiarity with the AMA style manual and client style standards, plus overall continuity of layout design
Technology:
The intern will gain expertise with Microsoft SharePoint, Word and PPT, and Adobe Acrobat.

Assistant Editor Internship Opportunity

A fall internship opportunity is available with ReminderMedia, which is located in King of Prussia and which publishes American Lifestyle magazine.  Although the description below says that the company wants the intern to have a bachelor's degree, that's not true;  interested students do not need to have completed a degree but should be going into senior year.  Please email Dr. Evan Radcliffe (evan.radcliffe@villanova.edu) if you wish to apply for the internship.

Basic Function:
Responsible for assisting the editorial department in selecting and editing articles for American Lifestyle magazine and for proofreading the magazine as well as internal and external communication documents.

Responsibilities:
Help fill magazine with balanced article ideas
Conduct extensive research on potential article topics, and present ideas to editorial team, including story outline, e-mail questionnaire, or interview questions
Conduct interviews, type, and organize proposed dialogue
Find contacts to research and write articles
Maintain professional correspondence with contacts and contributors
Send physical and digital samples to contributors once a magazine is completed
Perform daily status updates with article acquisitions and communicate appropriately with editorial team
Update internal CRM program with notes and statuses as it relates to acquiring content needed for articles
Write web articles, blog posts, and editorial content for American Lifestyle magazine
Research and propose topics for expanded content in web and digital media
Proof articles and entire magazine during the issue-review process
Proof Tear Out Cards (TOCs), ads, and documents for creative department as needed
Proof internal and external documents for all other departments as needed
Proof websites, e-mails, and social media as needed
Orchestrate communication with contributors to further connect ReminderMedia with our magazine content and readers
Assist in the gathering of social media and web content
Address any grammar discrepancies as it relates to the Chicago Manual of Style and ReminderMedia house preferences
Help resolve questions and concerns of our customers as it relates to the editorial content
Fact-check composed articles materials submitted by freelance contributors
All other related duties as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in English or related degree
No prior experience required
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and general computer knowledge
