English On the Road

Famous places, famous people—as English majors, you read about lots of them.  We invite you to create your own links to them by sending us photos of you, with your Villanova English T-shirts, in famous places (in the US or abroad), or faraway places, or with famous people.  If you’re traveling, or studying abroad, or talking with someone notable, make it a Villanova English moment!

E-mail photos to Prof. Evan Radcliffe (evan.radcliffe@villanova.edu) or Prof. Michael Berthold (michael.berthold@villanova.edu), or tweet to @VUEnglish; use the hashtag #VUEnglishWorld.

If you don’t yet have a shirt, we’ve received a new batch.  You can buy one for just $10 from the English department.

English Coffee Break on Thursday

You’re all invited to our first spring Coffee Break this Thursday afternoon (Feb. 11).  This time it’s the Valentine’s edition, and it features Dr. Travis Foster’s famous brownies along with Valentine's Day chocolates and (of course) coffee.  Readings of great love poetry are optional.

We also just received a new shipment of the English department T-shirts that we unveiled last year, which were all sold out. You can buy a shirt for just $10, or maybe even win one in a raffle!

Summer Opportunity for Juniors

Last summer, English major Chidimma Uwalaka  completed an “amazing” fellowship in Brooklyn, New York, and she is now a Campus Ambassador for Uncommon Schools, a charter management organization that “starts and manages outstanding urban charter public schools that close the achievement gap and prepare low-income students to graduate from college.”  She asked that we share the following information about a position with Uncommon Schools.

From Chidimma:
Are you a college junior passionate about urban education and school reform? Know someone who is? If so, APPLY to the 2016 Summer Teaching Fellowship here, and encourage your peers to do the same. The application deadline is quickly approaching; March 4th is the last time to submit for this amazing opportunity to teach deserving students, earn a paycheck, and live in an awesome city for FREE! For more information, feel free to contact me via email at cuwalaka@villanova.edu. As a 2015 alumna of this amazing fellowship, I am more than happy to answer any questions and help with the application process!

Advertising Job with Centro

We’ve received an e-mail from Ashley Ayoob, a Villanova English major who graduated last year, about a job for a Media Associate in the Boston office of Centro, a Digital Media and Tech agency, where she works.  While Centro is looking for someone who can start full time right away, Ashley says students graduating in May are more than welcome to apply to get their name in the pipeline for future opportunities.

Ashley would be happy to talk with any interested students:  aayoob1@villanova.edu.  The job is posted here.
