The Great Bard Bake-Off

The department celebrated Shakespeare's 452nd birthday with The Great Bard Bake-Off--featuring Shakespeare-themed cakes baked by the Graduate English students.  Guests voted for their favorite dessert, and Laura Tscherry triumphed with her Rosemary Lemon tart (aka "And Rosemary and Lemon Tart, That's for Remembrance").

Creativity on the Page Learning Community

First-year students in the English Department’s Creativity on the Page Learning Community capped their year together with an evening out to Han Dynasty in Old City. As part of the learning community, these fifteen students have shared a dorm and, in many cases, a room with each other, while taking both semesters of their ACS with English professor Travis Foster and a creative writing workshop with poet Jill Karn.

Literary Experience in London

An eighteen-week overseas study program, the English department's new "Literary Experience in London" combines small academic seminars taught by a faculty member from Villanova’s English Department (this year, Prof. Lauren Shohet, who who holds the endowed Luckow Family Professorship) with classes offered by the Arcadia University London Centre, Queen Mary University, Goldsmiths University of London, and City University.

The group pictured below in front of St. Paul's Cathedral includes three first-year English majors, Isabel Edwards, Alexandra Forgione, and Angelina Malenda, and junior English major Stephen Purcell.

English Senior Class Celebration

All Senior English majors are invited to our departmental Senior Class Celebration on Friday, April  29, at 3 pm in Driscoll 132. This is a final chance, before Commencement weekend, for senior English majors and faculty to gather together.

It won’t be formal the way Commencement or the College Convocation ceremony are, but we will announce each senior’s name, give out various awards, and have an opportunity to socialize.  Naturally, we’ll have food—light refreshments, including delicious desserts.  Casual attire is appropriate (and if you wear your Villanova English Department T-shirt, faculty will gladly sign it if you wish!).

Guests are welcome.  Please RSVP to Sharon Rose-Davis (sharon.rose-davis@villanova.edu) by April 25.
