Call for Submissions: Collision Magazine, University of Pittsburgh

Collision, a literary magazine based at the University of Pittsburgh, is currently open for submissions of undergraduate fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and art. By submitting to the annual magazine, students will also be considered for the magazine's writing and cover art competitions.

Bloomsday Essay Contest

Calling all emerging Joyceans!  Submit your best essay on Ulysses or another Joyce text for the Rosenbach’s first annual Bloomsday Essay Contest. Critical essays welcome from undergraduate and graduate students in the Tri-State area. Winners will be announced on June 16, 2017, at the Rosenbach’s Bloomsday celebration. All participants are encouraged to attend but need not be present to win!

Requirements:
--Essays must be original work, unpublished elsewhere.
--Essays must be written in the English language.
--Entrants must attend a college or university in, or have a permanent address in, Pennsylvania,    New Jersey, or Delaware.
--Entries must be submitted from a valid academic address (.edu) by the essay’s author.
--Length should be between 2000-9000 words in length, excluding footnotes.
--Essays must be formatted in MLA style (12 pt, double-spaced, numbered pages) with MLA citation.
--Please include the essay’s title on the first page of the essay as well as in the Essay Title field below.
--To ensure blind judging, identifying information (name, institution) should ONLY be included in the submission form below, and not in the essay.
--Submissions that do not meet all the above requirements are not eligible for consideration.

Prize money:
--$300 for an outstanding paper written by a graduate student
--$200 for an outstanding paper written by an undergraduate student

Narrative: 30 Below Contest

The 30 Below Contest for young writers and artists between 18 and 30 years old is accepting submissions now through November 9 and is looking to publish and promote the best young authors it can find. Narrative regularly publishes masters such as Joyce Carol Oates, T. C. Boyle, and Alice Munro alongside young writers at the beginning of their careers.

The 2013 Nation Student Writing Contest

Eight years ago, The Nation launched an annual Student Writing Contest to identify, support and reward some of the numerous smart, progressive student journalists writing, reporting and blogging today.

This year, the magazine is looking for original, thoughtful student voices to answer this question in 800 words: It's clear that the political system in the US isn't working for many. If you had to pick one root cause underlying our broken politics, what would it be and why?

The Nation will select ten finalists and two winners total. Each winner will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize and a lifetime Nation subscription. The five finalists will be awarded $200 each and subscriptions. Entries will be accepted through Saturday, June 30, 2013.

The contest is open to all matriculating high school students and undergraduates at US schools, colleges and universities as well as those receiving high school or college degrees in 2013. Submissions and questions can be e-mailed to studentprize@thenation.com.
